This series, titled “The Recovery Series”, is a three part depiction of life after rape. The first part consists of three paintings, entitled “Deflowering”, “The Detective”, and “Never Clean”; an illustration of the rape itself. The second part deals with relapse and the struggle with addiction after a traumatic event. The materials used for this second part are acrylic paint and ink on watercolor paper to invoke a comic art style, illuminating the juxtaposition and dichotomy of a playful art style and a difficult topic. The third part is about healing, and making sex a positive experience again.
