DEFLOWERING
Acrylic paint on stretched canvas
February 2023
This piece is a pair of hands mangling a flower.
This piece represents the act of sexual assault itself in a metaphorical manner. Virginity is something that is widely discussed with the "purity" of women, and how some view rape or sex as "dirtying" a woman. Deflowering is about my experience of losing my own virginity to rape, and struggling with viewing myself as less than because of it.

THE DETECTIVE
Acrylic paint on stretched canvas
February 2023
This piece explores what it feels like to be questioned by law enforcement in an interrogation - like manner upon reporting sexual assault.
Reporting assault to law enforcement can be traumatizing in and of itself, due to invasive questions or queries like "What were you wearing?". My own personal experience with this felt very much like an interrogation, and this piece attempts to illustrate that.

NEVER CLEAN
Acrylic paint on stretched canvas
February 2023
Rape survivors often feel unclean or "dirty" after the assault, and can try to combat this by obsessively showering or bathing, and scrubbing the skin until it's raw. This piece explores that feeling and the struggle of trying to erase what happened through this.
This piece depicts a woman in the bath, feeling defeated after spending hours trying to erase what happened to no avail.

TO BE MADE OF FLESH WAS HUMILIATION
Acrylic paint on gessoed paper
February 2023
This piece was a class assignment in which we had to pair a quote, word, phrase, or sentence with an image. I chose the quote "To be made of flesh was humiliation" by Alice Munro. This piece represents how difficult it is to live in this world with a woman's body, especially when it comes to being inherently sexualized.
